Scope your variables and use Hungarian naming convention.
If you can do data manipulation on the database, do it THERE, not on the CF side.
Stamp every record with the date/time of the last update and who performed it.
Avoid nesting anything more than three levels deep: CFLOOP's, CFIF's, arrays, etc.
